October 2009 Trip to New York and Cincinnati.

For the second time in 2009 I was lucky enough to be invited to teach in Cincinnati & Kentucky, Ohio, fantastic, as I was also able to go to New York and support my friends bravely running the Marathon and indulge in a spot of sight seeing as well.

Following is an account of my trip I hope you find it interesting and informative.

Thursday 22nd October 2009

My friend Anne and myself arrived safely in Cincinnati after almost missing our connection in Houston due to a delayed flight, having had to run through the airport and then be safely delivered at our departure gate on a travel buggy at the very last minute!

Friday 23rd October 2009

To give us time to recharge our batteries after our long journey we took this day off and visited the Taft Art museum, and indulged in lunch at the restaurant to celebrate Anne’s birthday.

Saturday 24th October 2009

Today we were picked up by my newly found relative who I met on my last trip in May, Martha and John who took us for a drive around Kentucky where we saw the tobacco leaves drying in the barns and enjoyed a proper American breakfast.  We stopped off in the truly amazing place of Rabbit Hash Creek on the banks of the Ohio River and its famous General Store, which has been working since 1831.  A brilliant day!

Sunday 25th October 2009

An early start today as the proper work begins.  Up at 5.30am to drive to Dayton to present  ‘Understanding Illness and Disease’ for 16 members of the Reflexology Association of Ohio (RAO).  Some of the points we covered included looking at how emotional well being affects physical well being, and how underlying issues can be the root cause of physical symptoms. We received some great feedback from the delegates, all of which enjoyed the session. We then enjoyed dinner at the hotel after a thoroughly rewarding day.

Monday 26th October 2009

Today I did individual treatments in the morning and then in the evening I ran a class on Advanced Foot Reading explaining the links and relationships between the feet, energy and chakra systems to reflexologists from the Ohio area and members of the Reflexology Association of Ohio. This was a follow on session from the course I taught for these delegates in May. This time we went into more depth about the finer details of Foot Reading which seems to really engage the audience as they thought that a 3 hour session wasn’t enough!

Tuesday 27th October 2009

This was the day that  I taught a basic Foot Reading Workshop to a French group of 18 delegates, followed by a fantastic lunch of fine French cuisine. This course was at the request of one of the delegates from one of the previous sessions I taught in May, it was fantastic to be asked back to teach it to others! In the evening I had dinner with Wendy Rolf Holistic Health Specialist 11 at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital to co-ordinate the following day’s workshop content.Photo - http://www.cincinnatichildrens.org/default.htm ("Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center")

Wednesday 28th October 2009

Today I was lucky enough to visit the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital again. This hospital is ranked the world’s number 3 Children’s Hospital and treat seriously ill children from all over the world.  This was another amazing opportunity to teach Gentle Touch Reflexology (GTR) for Babies and Children, as well as to teach additional GTR techniques to 18 of the staff at the hospital (some of whom attended my previous workshop in May).

Thursday 29th October 2009

Today I met up with another distant relative in Cincinnati, Bob, who took me to see the wonderful autumn colours of the Cincinnati area and we had lunch at a wonderful bookstore, where I also had the chance to discuss my new book Reflexology for Babies and children with the store.

In the evening I held a talk on Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) for about a dozen complementary practitioners and associates.   I really enjoy teaching NLP and seeing other people enjoy it too.

Friday 30th October 2009

Today we flew to New York to meet up with our friends running the Marathon

Saturday 31st October 2009

Today is Halloween which is a big deal in America, everywhere we went people were dressed up in amazing costumes, we had a day sightseeing today including Staten Island, the Statue of Liberty and the Word Trade Centre site.  We also had time to indulge in a little shopping at Macy’s.  The city is packed as there are so many people running the marathon – a really vibrant and buzzy feeling!

Sunday 1st November 2009

Marathon day!  We supported Cathy, Liz and Nicola our friends from the UK, and managed to see them twice as they ran – amazing given that there are so many people there!  All 3 managed to do great times for the run and we are so proud of them.  In the evening we met up for dinner at Ellen’s Starburst – a fantastic restaurant where the waiters sing songs from the Broadway shows whilst serving dinner!

Monday 2nd November

Working again today, I did some treatments before meeting another relative for lunch. It was great to catch up before a quick change to get ready for a special trip out to the Metropolitan Opera to see Aida. We had a fantastic time there. It was all so impressive, the building, the people and the performance.

Tuesday 3rd November

Today we just had time to squeeze in a lecture on Foot Reading.  This was organised through one of the ladies, Tamara, who attended one of my May workshops in Cincinnati – amazing how the word about GTR spreads!  The talk was on Park Avenue – a very glamorous place for doing this, just down from Central Park!  Afterwards we took a New York yellow taxi over to meet another relative for lunch before flying home.

What’s next?

We had a fantastic time in the US and its really great to meet so many people and to spread the word about GTR, Foot Reading and NLP to some new audiences.  In 2010 I will be going back to Cincinnati for more teaching and then to Toronto, New York and Ireland to teach more reflexology sessions!
